workshops & talks & conferences, oh my!

Speaking with young adults and children is one of the best parts of the writing job. With over two decades of experience in the classroom and as a finalist for New York State Teacher of the Year, I’m an educator to the core and value the hard work teachers and librarians do every day. I’m eager to meet the students, teachers, and librarians of your school.

I have taught many different students in many different settings. On this page, you’ll find workshops I might deliver for your school. All workshops are designed to be original, engaging, and informative. Below are some nice things people have said about my teaching. Click the button at the bottom of the page to start the conversation about ways I might tailor workshops and presentations to your individual and institutional needs. Be sure to check out my “writers” page as well to make use of over 50 readymade 15-minute mini-lessons to use in your writing lessons. And be sure to check out my unique and interactive teaching and discussion guide for Dangerous Play here.

— Diane Sarna, Teacher and Retreat and Conference Coordinator
Emma captivated the attention of 23 third-graders during a week-long poetry workshop by hooking them in and then letting them go! The results were inspiring!
— Danielle Terry, 3rd Grade Teacher
…there have been many amazing educators with whom I’ve interacted. Emma Kress is one of a handful who don’t just teach but also inspire and whose impact is felt by students and adults alike.
— -Cynthia C. VanGiesen, High School Principal
She encourages all students, no matter the ability—from those students in special education to those on high honor roll.
